Benefits of the project

• Stop safely

  A safe and convenient place for all motorway users to stop and take a break, helping to address the limited provision of quality services on the A1(M) and its adjoining motorways and trunk roads and support safer journeys.

  

• Rest and refresh

  Food and drink options, toilets, showers and rest areas would give motorists and professional drivers the facilities they need to take a proper break.

  

• Secure off-road HGV overnight parking

  A segregated and secure HGV parking area with around 70 HGV parking spaces.

  

• Refuel and recharge

  Convenient fuel facilities and ultra-rapid charging for cars and vans, with additional spaces ready to become charging points as future demand grows, creating the largest EV charging hub in the region.

  

• Powering eHGVs

  Drive through ultra-rapid charging would allow quick eHGV stops without reversing or unhitching trailers, plus 10 dedicated rapid charging spaces available for use during longer rest breaks, with further eHGV ready spaces deployed as demand increases.

  

• Backing local growth

  Around £50 million of investment would be brought to the area, creating around 200 jobs once the service area is open, with local people encouraged to apply for the new roles.
